The Arts Matter Conference!
Greetings Grade 3's and parents!
I would like to share with you some interesting things I recently learned at an Arts Conference that I attended as a Professional Development day. As you know, being a teacher requires you to attend all sorts of fun events and conferences, like this one. The Arts Matter was possibly the most amazing experience I have ever had. I learned so many amazing things and got lots of neat ideas of things that I could do in my class to make learning fun. I believe that all too often teachers don't give enough credit to the arts portion of the curriculum like dance, music, drama and art.
As a classroom teacher, I strongly agree with this and I would really like to embrace the arts within my classroom curriculum. I love visual arts and I want my students to be able to express themselves using different art forms. I also thought this workshop was useful in the sense that it really helped me and gave me great ideas as to how I could teach drama and music and dance in certain areas of the curriculum. I hope to try these soon and am just as excited and eager to do so. One thing that I thought was really useful and interesting is the use of drama in other subjects areas like language arts, science or math. I definitely would like to try and incorporate this into my lessons.
One reason why I chose to attend this conference was because I wanted to further my knowledge in arts education. I was really pleased with the outcome of this event as I learned how to incorporate the arts into teaching and foster different styles of learning and at the same time making sure I cater to all my students intelligences--especially those that are bodily-kinesthetic, visual and auditory learners!
